Abstract
A computer is used to regulate the movement of a small pad over the workpiece surface. The computer controls the amount of time any region is worked, which provides an accurate method for correcting surface errors. In addition to polishing operations the computer control process is an important technique for grinding applications. A series of experiments have provided valuable information on computer-controlled grinding, and the process has been used to grind several optical elements.
