Abstract
A systematic performance analysis of aplanatic Schwarzschild-Couder type telescopes has been carried out by means of a ray trace program. The classic Schwarzschild and Couder designs were studied in detail. It was found that those types of telescopes, in contrast to the Gregorian [
Appl. Opt. 13,
2402 (
1974)] and the Cassegrainian [
Appl. Opt. 13,
2064 (
1974)] configuration, suffered severely from higher order aberration.
