Abstract
Both experimental and theoretical results of a low-voltage-driven optical branching-waveguide switch in Z-cut LiNbO3 are presented. In a 10-μm-wide single-mode branching-waveguide switch for λ0 = 0.6328 μm, the 10-dB extinction ratio was obtained at a drive voltage as low as ±6.5 V, although ±40 V was required in a 4-μm-wide switch. The scattering loss of the guided mode at the branching point was evaluated to be 1.3 dB.
