Abstract
A new concept is introduced whereby thermal stresses generated through
the pumping process are canceled by an applied force. By use of a disk laser as a model system, significant reduction of thermal
lensing and deformation is demonstrated as a function of applied pressure,
and the output power is limited only by the available pump power.
