Abstract
Laser action has been achieved with lithium (F2+)A centers in additively colored KI. In preliminary measurements, this material has been tuned continuously between 2.72 and 3.67 μm. The material was coaxially pumped with a pulsed 1.73-μm Er:YLF laser, and (F2+)A centers were produced by using a selective, two-step photoionization technique. These additively colored crystals have the practical advantage of being reusable after cycling between liquid-nitrogen and room temperature.
