Abstract
Various applications of the scattering optimization method for the design of mode control devices are presented. These include the design of a highly efficient (97.86%) and compact aperiodic grating for TE02- to TE01-mode conversion in a circular waveguide, the design of a waveguide transition or taper, and the design of an efficient mode filter. Dielectric waveguide applications of the method are also discussed.
