Abstract
We have measured the differential Stark shift in the 6s6p3P1 state of mercury. The technique we used was to measure the shift in the magnetic-field level crossing in 199Hg when an additional electric field was applied. We obtained the value E(mJ = ±1) − E(mJ = 0) = −2.367 ± 0.024 kHz/(kV/cm)2 · ∊2, where ∊ is the electric field.
