Table II
Efficiency of units as sources of infrared, visible and ultraviolet radiation, given as energy flux per watt input within 20° of axis at distance of 30″ from light center.
Milliwatts per watt input able to penetrate 5 mm through human flesh. Computed using Cartwright’s transmission data, J. Opt. Soc. Am. 20, 81 (1930). The transmission through 5 mm of flesh has a maximum value of 20 percent for radiation of wavelength 11.000A and is negligible for wavelengths shorter than 5000 or longer than 16.000A. E vitons per watt input. (One E viton is equivalent to 10 microwatts of λ2967A in the production of a “minimum perceptible” erythema.)
