Abstract
The conventional method of data collection in Fabry-Perot (FP) spectroscopy is to scan the interferometer, either by changing the refractive index of the medium between the plates, or, more usually, by changing the plate separation. Either of these methods is wasteful since only the light from a narrow spectral region is collected at any time. It would be desirable to take advantage of the dispersion introduced by the Fabry-Perot etalon more completely. This can be done if the ring pattern of the instrument is detected rather than just the on-axis transmission, which is the case when scanning is taking place.
