Abstract

A new formalism has been established to describe the temperature distribution along hollow-core waveguides when high-powered CO2 laser light is launched. It is theoretically shown that the temperature decreases in an oscillatory manner along waveguides due to the interference effect of guided modes. Experimental results are also presented to confirm the theoretical predictions quantitatively.
