Abstract
The quantum statistical properties of the field, in a micromaser operating with incoherently prepared (inverted) atoms have been studied in detail. Recently, the prediction of sub-Poissonian photon statistics of the cavity field1 has been confirmed by measurements.2 Under such experimental conditions the photon density matrix remains diagonal for all times; therefore, coherence and squeezing of the cavity field may not occur.
