Abstract
Computer-generated holograms possess valuable properties and offer interesting possibilities in storage and display applications. To secure a high diffraction efficiency a phase variation is superimposed on the discrete distribution to be reconstructed in the hologram construction process. A random phase distribution can be incorporated. However, it will cause speckles in the reconstruction. Wild intensity fluctuations will occur between the reconstructed sampling points. In synthetic holography other kinds of phase distribution are possible to achieve and implement.
