Abstract
An Yb3+-Ho3+ co-doped all-fiber laser oscillating at 2.05 µm in continuous-wave (CW) and pulsed (“gain switching”) regimes at 1.064-µm pumping – away the resonant absorption bands of both Yb3+ and Ho3+ co-dopants – is reported. Low threshold (~0.8 W), moderate slope efficiency (up to 15.6% at CW and up to 9.4 % at pulsed operation), and a narrow (≤70 pm at a 3-dB level) laser line are obtained in the simplest non-optimized Fabry-Perot cavity, formed by spectrally adjusted fiber Bragg gratings. Up to maximal pump power, the laser demonstrates high stability in both the regimes during uninterrupted few-hours-per-day operation: its output power at CW fluctuates within a few percent while jitter at pump-modulation induced pulsing is negligible.
