Abstract
Optical Fiber micro-tapers and nano-tapers have a variety of applications in sensing and other areas. The fabrication of these tapers is highly manual and operator dependent leading to variation from taper to taper and low yields. An automated approach for manufacturing micro and even submicron tapers using a high precision glass processor with an integrated handling system is described. This approach produces micro and nano-tapers with improved reliability and high repeatability from taper to taper. This results in higher yields in less time than manual methods.
