Abstract
By exploiting the high contrast in the optical properties of the phase change material Ge2Sb2Te5 between its amorphous and its crystalline stable phases (ncryst-namor=2.5 and kcryst-kamor=1 at 1.55 µm) [1] a thin film (80 nm) of this material placed on top of an Au waveguide can be used to modify the propagation of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) along it due to an increase in both its losses and reflection in the Ge2Sb2Te5 layer.
