Abstract
VCSELs are known to suffer from polarization instabilities due to their circular geometry and surface emission. Double polarization switching (PS), type I (from the high-frequency (y) to the low-frequency (x) polarization) followed by type II (from the low-frequency (x) to the high-frequency (y)) has been found in short-wavelength devices [1]. Only type I PS has been found in long-wavelength VCSELs [2,3]. The characterization of this PS has permitted the measurement of the parameters that determine the polarization behaviour of the device [2].
