Abstract
Lasing action from filament plasma pumped by ultra-short intense laser pulses has attracted growing attention in recent years [1-2]. In particular, the employment of a backward lasing is expected to bring tremendous improvement of measurement precision and sensitivity in remote sensing applications. It has been recently shown that a backward amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) at 337 nm wavelength, which corresponds to the transition from the C3Πu state to B3Πg state of nitrogen molecule, can be obtained from laser-induced filament plasma in nitrogen gas or air pumped by circularly polarized 800 nm femtosecond laser pulses [3].
