High-bandwidth Link with Single Laser Input Using Silicon Modulators and Mode Multiplexing

Abstract

We demonstrate mode multiplexing to expand the bandwidth of silicon microring modulators. We show 37.5 Gb/s bandwidth while using a single laser coupled to a single waveguide, relieving the power and cost constraints associated with integrating multiple lasers for WDM.
