Abstract
Microexplosions triggered by single femtosecond laser pulses tightly focussed inside a crystalline or amorphous host can be used to create high-pressure/density forms of nano-materials via an unconventional synthesis pathway: multiply ionized plasma, separation by diffusion, thermal quenching.
