Abstract

Broadly tunable lasers find use in a plethora of applications, spanning remote sensing and biomedical imaging, to fundamental scientific studies. Lasers that can operate in the near-infrared are of particular interest due to long-established technology in this wavelength region. By far the most commonly used laser in this region is Ti:Sapphire, which with its enormous tunability (~650 – 1100nm) has become an ubiquitous tool across many of these applications. Ti:Sapphire, however, has a potential drawback; despite some recent progress in diode -pumping, it typically requires complex and expensive pump sources for reliable operation.
