Abstract
The stored energy that can be achieved in a laser oscillator or amplifier is constrained by the corresponding gain at which parasitic oscillations develop. Parasitics are oscillating modes within the active laser medium resulting from feedback from reflections at the boundaries of the medium. Once a parasitic mode develops, gain in that region can no longer be increased.
