Abstract
An output power of 450 niW at 900 nm for ~ 1 W of absorbed pump power at 790 nm is obtained from a Nd-doped strontium-lanthanum aluminate crystal (Nd: ASL) pumped by a titanium sapphire laser. This wavelength is one of the shortest 4F3/2 →4I9/2 laser transitions ever reported for a C W Nd-activated material. The slope efficiency reaches 58 %, a very high value for such a quasi-three level laser
