Abstract
This paper describes light attenuators based on electrooptic and nonlinear-optical effects in nematic, nemato-chiral, and ferroelectric liquid-crystal systems intended for the protection of an observer’s eyes from blinding effects. The characteristics of attenuators that operate both over the entire field of view and with local modulation are discussed. © 2004 Optical Society of America
