Self-reference spatiotemporal image-restoration technique

Abstract

The restoration of space-variant imagery requires more information than the restoration of shift-invariant imagery. A selective rejection and piecewise resummation method that does not rely on a priori information is given; this method extracts the needed information from a time sequence of distorted imagery, using the time-averaged low-spatial-frequency image content as a self-reference to reorganize the high-spatial-frequency image content of individual frames. Experimental results to support this self-reference image restoration are given for a two-dimensional gray-scaled object moving underneath and imaged through a water wave tank.
