Abstract
The properties of optical propagation in a thick holographic material in which three gratings are incoherently superimposed are examined by using a coupled-wave analysis. Algebraic expressions derived are applicable to the cases for read-out with one or more of the incident waves and for read-out waves at arbitrary angles of incidence. The results demonstrate that the intensities of the diffracted wave depend strongly on the relative phases of the superimposed gratings and that, for simultaneous read-out with two or more incident waves, the intensities of the diffracted waves vary with the phase difference between the index maxima of the grating and intensity maxima of optical fringe pattern used for read-out.
