Abstract
The tendency of contours to fade from view during 5 min periods of fixation was studied for 40 minimally distinct borders formed by pairs of different monochromatic lights. Each of these borders had previously been rated for distinctness. A high positive correlation was found between distinctness ratings and the number of seconds per fixation period that the border was seen.
