Ellipsometry of Anisotropic Films

Abstract

The macroscopic description of the optical behavior of (thin) films adsorbed on a polished solid surface is extended by allowing for uniaxial anisotropy in the adsorbate. The theoretical results are applied to Langmuir–Blodgett layers of absorbing and nonabsorbing surface-active compounds.
