Luminance–Time Relation at Various Eccentricities: Individual Differences

Abstract

The luminance–time relation was recorded at various retinal locations along the horizontal meridian of the dark-adapted retina. The test spot subtended at the eye 7′. The critical duration is found to vary as a function of eccentricity. In addition, some data are produced that seem to show that the luminance–time relation, at absolute threshold, depends on the time distribution of luminance, in the light stimulus, in the range of duration for which partial summation occurs. However, strong individual differences of the sign of this effect are found.
