Abstract

The role of spectroscopy in thermonuclear research is reviewed briefly. The various techniques of observation and interpretation of spectra and some of the limitations are illustrated by appropriate tables and figures. It is shown that the spectroscopist has available a unique, multipurpose, and yet unperturbing probe which can contribute significantly to the interpretation of the pressing problems besetting thermonuclear scientists.
