Interferometric Spectrometer for the Infrared

Abstract

An interferometric spectrometer of the Fabry-Perot type has been built for the infrared spectral region and its resolving power has been tested on the 10-μ band of NH3. The interferometer has two sets of plates. One set of plates is closely spaced to isolate a free spectral range for the other set, which is more widely spaced to achieve the final resolution. Wavelength scanning is achieved by a synchronized mechanical separation of both sets of plates. The interferometer plates are figured rocksalt crystal plates coated with evaporated multilayers of tellurium and sodium chloride.
