Abstract
Assuming the usual trigonometrical calculation for an approximate optical system, seven differential equations are set up for spherical aberration, coma, distortion, field errors, power, and color. The equations are so expressed that the same principle is used both for the aperture ray and the field ray. The discussion is complete enough for a computer to use. A Tessar-type photographic lens system is given as an example.
