A Continuous, Automatic Tristimulus Integrator for Use with the Recording Spectrophotometer

Abstract

An automatic tristimulus integrator has been developed for use with the General Electric Recording Spectrophotometer. Selsyn transmitters mounted on the spectrophotometer relay the wave-length and reflectance to the computer where integration is carried out by means of mechanical analog techniques. The integrations are performed continuously while the curve is being drawn at either fast or slow speed. Tristimulus values for any curve may, therefore, be obtained by the spectrophotometer operator with no additional expenditure of time other than that required to record the values and return the counters to zero. The precision of the prototype computer is about ±0.0005 and the absolute accuracy of the tristimulus values obtained is approximately ±0.003.
