Abstract
We propose a monolithic optically injection-locked laser system on one
chip, without the use of an isolator. This system is based on the availability
of two modes in a ring laser (clockwise, and counter-clockwise). In a ring
laser whose operation is dominated by the counter-clockwise mode, the clockwise
mode power is significantly reduced. Hence, the coupling between the master
laser and the ring laser is highly unidirectional, due to the direction of
the ring laser output. This monolithic injection locking system is predicted
to exhibit a greatly enhanced resonance frequency and modulation bandwidth
under ultrahigh injection locking conditions.
