Infrared and Visual Radiation Measurements from TIROS III

Abstract

Average and clear sky limb darkening ratios from TIROS III measurements are compared with theoretical computations. Albedos for both visible and total solar radiation as measured from TIROS III are similar. Their relative values appear reasonable but absolute values are too low. Patterns of radiation in the window region 8–13 μ are related to cloud top heights, which are in turn related to the large scale weather patterns.
