Abstract

A new light scattering measurement system for optical fibers has been developed. It is intended for measuring 3-D scattered light intensity distribution from a short fiber segment. Using this system, it has been verified for the first time that ZrF4-based fluoride optical fiber exhibits a Rayleigh scattering characteristic and has lower scattering loss than silica fiber.
