Integrated-optical Givens rotation device

Abstract

The Givens rotation operation occupies a central role in linear algebraic signal processing. An integrated-optical coherent implementation of an elementary rotation matrix device, based on thick grating diffraction, to perform this operation is proposed. It is shown that existing electrooptic phase shifting and grating diffraction devices can be combined to produce a very fast Givens rotation device.
