Abstract
The pulse duration of an optical free induction decay picosecond CO2 laser system was modeled and compared to autocorrelation measurements. Satisfactory agreement was obtained indicating that pulses as short as 20 psec were produced. The pulse duration can be continuously adjusted up to ∼200 psec by changing the CO2 gas pressure.
