Abstract
Amorphous films of -SiC:H and -Si:H were deposited upon the flat surfaces of D-shaped fibers. Interaction of light with the semiconductor films occurred through evanescent coupling. Pulse shaping on a picosecond time scale was observed in 3.5-cm-long fibers with optical powers of , enhancing the effective nonlinearity by a factor of .
