Abstract
An important early step in the discovery of a new pharmaceutical drug is usually the screening of hundreds of thousands of compounds for effectiveness in a biological assay that is designed to give an indication of therapeutic efficacy. Fluorescence is the detection modality that is most widely used for this purpose. The talk will present the characteristics of fluorometric assay systems that are used in this unique field.
