Abstract
Long horizontal paths and rapid changes of observer position combined with large horizontal gradients in mixing ratios of trace gases of interest are the reason for the need of a two-dimensional approach for analysis of limb emission spectra from space-borne experiments. A data evaluation concept is de-scribed and discussed which is based on classical one-dimensional 'onion peeling' approach, but avoids the assumption of spherical homogeneity.
