Abstract
Multilayer antireflection coatings often make use of layers with refractive indices which do not occur in nature. There exist several methods to simulate such layers by a combination of two given materials. One of the first methods had been patented by GEFFCKEN /1/ who proposed to simulate a quarterwave-layer with a required refractive index by at least a three layer combination. ROCK /2/ patented antireflection coatings in which a first quarterwave-layer is replaced by only two layers.
