Low-Divergent 940-nm Photonic-Crystal Surface-Emitting Laser for Short-Reach Free-Space Data Link

Abstract

The photonic-crystal-structured surface-emitting laser with a low-divergent-beam angle of 4.5 mrad can perform either 5.5-Gbit/s NRZ-OOK, or 16-Gbit/s broadband QAM DMT or 19.2-Gbit/s bit-loaded DMT formats for 30-cm short-reach point-to-point free-space-optical communication link.
