40 Gbps PON with 23 dB power budget using 10 Gbps optics and DMT

Abstract

We investigate a symmetrical 40 Gbps PON using 10-Gbps class optical components. We demonstrate transmission at 40 Gbps, with 23-dB power budget and 4.6∙10-3 BER after 10-km SSMF transmission using discrete multitone IM-DD.
