Abstract
Low-cost optical modules are urgently needed to system development for Fiber-To-The-Home (F'ITH) [I]. An optical wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmittedreceiver module is promising for a passive double star (PDS) FTTH network [1,2]. To reduce module cost from the viewpoint of module assembly, it is necessary to simplify the sophisticated precise alignment of the optical axis and reduce the number of components in the module. Cost-effective solutions are reported up to now [3-61, i,e., the use of passive alignment and a silica-based planar waveguide. However, there is no report of the module accomplishing both low-cost and high-performance simultaneously.
