Abstract
Recently, external methods for controlling the far-field intensity distributions and spectra of coupled stripe laser diode arrays have been demonstrated using external cavities1,2 and Injection locking.3-5 While the external-cavity approach for single-lobe operation is simple to implement and does not require wavelength stabilization, injection locking has been shown to produce highly single-lobe far fields and single-longitudinal-mode operation. Diffraction-limited single-lobe output of an injection-locked forty-element gain-guided array emitting 510 mW (cw) has been demonstrated, with 150 mW coupled into a single-mode fiber.5
