Abstract
In image reconstruction problems in nuclear medicine, as well as in optimization and estimation problems in other areas of optics, one wants to find a best estimate of some quantity. Such problems can often be reduced to finding a global minimum in some multidimensional energy surface. Simulated annealing is very effective for these problems, but it is also very computationally intensive.
