Time-dependent spectra of copper laser oscillators and amplifiers

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We have examined the time-dependent spectra of copper vapor laser oscillators and amplifiers. The spectra of the two lasing lines were examined with a spectral resolution of ~0.75 GHz and a time resolution of 3 ns. The oscillator spectra were quite similar to those previously reported by a number of other authors. The main features are that the green line (511 nm) is ~6.5 GHz wide and consists of an approximately rectangular line with three peaks whose amplitudes vary in time. The yellow line (578 nm), on the other hand, is composed of one narrow peak of <2 GHz wide early in time and three narrow well-resolved peaks covering ~7 GHz later in time.
