Abstract
It is well known that in the presence of quadratic nonlinearities not only does frequency doubling occur but a static electric field is also generated. In early experiments it was shown that a laser pulse propagating through a non-centrosymmetric crystal gives rise to the formation of a voltage pulse [1].
