Abstract
A new calibration method for particle concentration mapping from lidar is proposed. For the reference lidar pointing direction, a solid target is used to extract the transmission and the lidar ratio. Assuming a relatively homogeneous particle size distribution and composition over the probed volume, the extinction coefficient profile is thereafter evaluated for all other pointing directions by combining this lidar ratio with a fit over data, leading to about accuracy of about 80%, according to test performed in a simulated coal mine environment.
