Abstract
Recently, it has been shown that the combination of a left-handed and a right-handed material in a Kerr resonator reveals the occurrence of a new modulational instability and dissipative structures in the negative diffraction regime [1]. These left-handed metamaterials (LHM), which have negative index of refraction, have some unusual optical properties, and have been fabricated in the microwave domain and more recently also in the optical domain [2].
